Senator Carl R. Johnson
District 2

Sen. Carl Johnson is a Republican serving his fifth term representing District 2. He previously served two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1991 to 1994. Within the Senate, he holds the leadership position of president pro tem.

Johnson is a member of four committees, including the Senate Environment Committee, which he chairs. He also is vice chairman of the Education Committee, and serves on both the Capital Budget and the Interstate Cooperation committees. Since being elected, he has made education, the environment, and economic development his top priorities, and has been recognized for his work protecting New Hampshire's lakes.

A longtime participant in local activities, the senator is a senior member of the Inter-Lakes School Board, an adviser for the Lakes Region Conservation Trust and a policy board member of the Loon Preservation Committee. 

Born in Winchester, Mass., Johnson now resides in Meredith with his wife, Jeannette. They have two children. He is the former owner of the Johnson Supply Company.

In addition, Johnson is a former professional baseball pitcher who signed with the Boston Braves in 1940. He's also a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946, and has been a member of the American Legion since 1946.
